Residence permit
Most citizens outside schengen or EU/EEA need a residence permit in order to work or to take up residence in Norway for longer than 90 days.
To find out if you need to apply for a residence permit, please use the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) webpage.
In order to apply for a residence permit to Norway from Thailand, you must either be a citizen of Thailand, Laos or Cambodia. Other nationals must have a valid residence permit in Thailand, valid for at least six months before applying for a residence permit to Norway.
Exit requirements from Thailand for Thai seasonal workers
Thai seasonal workers who are leaving Thailand to work in Norway are required to notify their travel plans to the Overseas Employment Administration Division of the Department of Employment. As part of the notification process, they must submit the following documents:
- A copy of their Thai ID card or house registration
- A copy of their passport
- A copy of their work permit (depending on the type issued by the Norwegian side)
- A copy of the employment contract, certified by the Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo
Once the notification process is completed, the Department of Employment will issue a confirmation document, which the worker must present at the labour checkpoint at Suvarnabhumi Airport. There, their passport will be stamped to indicate that they are departing for overseas employment, before proceeding to the Thai Immigration Bureau for final departure clearance.
