Vacancy at the Embassy of Norway in Khartoum, pt Nairobi

The Embassy has a short-term vacancy until 31 July 2026 (with possibility for extension) as Political Adviser on Sudan. The position is available for immediate appointment.

Main duties:

  • Reporting on political processes and economic development related to Sudan.
  • Dialogue and network building with partners and stakeholders. These may be located both inside and outside of Sudan.
  • Participate in meetings with international partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Some grant management related to the thematic focus could be foreseen.
  • Give assistance to the Embassy administration, including organizing meetings, travel, and bookings.
  • The Head of Mission may decide on changes to assigned duties. Restructuring the work done on the foreign service mission may impact on the main duties.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in political science/social sciences/economics/development studies, or equivalent, is a requirement.
  • Knowledge about the political and economic development context in Sudan is a requirement.
  • Experience in political reporting and analysis is a requirement.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Valid work and residence permit in Kenya is a requirement.

  • Ability to seek information independently and be able to analyze complex data to make assessments and represent Norwegian positions.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities and undertake multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Respect for cultural diversity, with the ability to fit into a diverse team and to establish networks.

 

Employment modalities

The position is based in Nairobi under a local contract. Remuneration as programme officer. A professional and conducive working environment will be offered, in addition to insurance and regulatory pension benefits. The political adviser will be based at the Norwegian Embassy in Khartoum, currently co-located with the Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi.
