Statement to the Press
Today the Special Envoys from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, France, Germany and Norway met with HE Jibril Ibrahim, HE Minni Minawi and Mr. Mutaz Alfahal. They discussed issues relating to the current political situation in Sudan, and how to meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people. The Envoys confirmed that in their view the Framework Political Agreement (signed 5th December) is the basis on which to establish a new civilian government to lead Sudan through a transitional period to free and fair elections, while also underlying the importance of broad participation. They encouraged their interlocutors to join the political process. The Special Envoys strongly discouraged parallel processes.
