'I am concerned for the safety and well-being of the hundreds of thousands of civilians in and around the city following the fighting. These people have already endured immense suffering after being trapped for 18 months under siege, cut off from access to food, medicine and other essentials.
'I remind all parties of their irrefutable obligations according to international humanitarian law: to protect civilians, to refrain from retaliatory measures, and to facilitate safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian access to meet urgent needs.
'There are deeply concerning reports that the RSF are committing atrocities, including summary executions, following their takeover of El Fasher.
'I condemn all violations of international humanitarian law committed against civilians in El Fasher, and across Darfur.
'This region has been tainted by alarming levels of ethnically motivated violence and conflict-related sexual violence throughout this conflict. Civilians must be guaranteed safe passage, continued protection, and unhindered access to assistance, wherever they are and regardless of which group they belong to, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide.
