Norway welcomes Nicaragua’s participation in the UPR process. We remain very concerned about the human rights situation in the country.
Norway recommends that Nicaragua:
- Restores the nationality of all Nicaraguans arbitrarily deprived of their nationality, [in accordance with article 20 of the Nicaraguan constitution about the Prohibition of Deprivation of Nationality by repealing Special Law 1145].
2.Ensures that journalists, political opponents, human rights defenders and civil society can operate safely and freely, [without fear of reprisals], [threats, attacks, harassment or unjust prosecution], in accordance with articles 30, 49 and 50 of the Nicaraguan Constitution.
3.Takes immediate steps to prevent gender-based violence and give adequate access to sexual and reproductive health services, and prevents discrimination against Indigenous Peoples, Afro -descendant and LGBT+ persons.
