Statement delivered by Iceland on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic States Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden

I have the honour to speak on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic States.
We thank the High Commissioner and the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar for their continued efforts to document the grave human rights situation in Myanmar.
As reported, the conflict in Rakhine has intensified, [which is deeply troubling].
Myanmar's broader armed conflict remains nationwide, marked by continued military airstrikes, persistent fighting across several regions and states, expanding displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
Once again, we call for an immediate end to all forms of violence against civilians, including sexual and gender-based violence, and the military’s use of indiscriminate aerial attacks. All parties to the conflict must abide by international law. [Safe, rapid and unhindered humanitarian access must be ensured].
We express deep concern about newly documented cases of violations, including reports of reproductive violence against women, [which, among other consequences, have led to infant deaths in prison].
We welcome the Mechanism’s role in accountability processes for international crimes, including the sharing of evidence and analysis for international courts and national jurisdictions. These efforts are vital for accountability and justice.
We further express support for the Mechanism’s efforts on witness protection and support for victims and survivors in Myanmar.
