President,
I have the honour to speak on behalf of the Nordic-Baltic countries.
We thank the Independent Expert for the update.
We remain deeply concerned by the dire human rights situation in Haiti. The brutality of armed gangs has contributed to one of the world's most severe internal displacement crises, while over half the population faces acute food insecurity. Sexual and gender-based violence remains a persistent concern.
We are particularly concerned by the recruitment, exploitation, and trafficking of children. Their protection must be an integral part of security and stabilization efforts, including child-sensitive disarmament, dismantlement, and reintegration programmes.
We note the progress in the preparations for elections and political transition. Sustainable progress will depend on improved security, accountability, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
While efforts to improve security and restore state authority are necessary, all security operations must comply with international human rights law.
Independent Expert,
As security efforts continue and preparations for a political transition move forward, how can the international community best support a human rights-centred approach that strengthens accountability and protects civilians, including children?
Thank you.
