Statement on the UN International Day

Delivered by chargé d’Affaires a.i. Henning Hj. Johansen at the Permanent Council, Vienna, 28 March 2019

CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY

Mr. Chair,

Aligning ourselves with the statement of the European Union, we would like to add the following in a national capacity.

After a right-wing extremist carried out a horrendous terrorist attack in Norway in 2011, partly motivated by hate against those who differ from the majority population of our country, we have been committed to further develop knowledge on causes and consequences of right-wing extremism and hate crime.

Among the follow-ups to this work is a Parliament decision to develop a national action plan against racism and discrimination. Our government has initiated dialogue with representatives from civil society to receive input to this action plan, which is intended to be submitted in the autumn of 2019.

Thank you.
