Statement on the use of chemical agent in Salisbury

Delivered by Ambassador Steffen Kongstad at the Permanent Council, Vienna, 15 March 2018

CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY

Mr. Chair,

Norway strongly condemns the nerve agent attack in Salisbury and we wish to express our solidarity with the United Kingdom in this extremely grave and shocking matter.

All use of this type of agent is prohibited under the Chemical Weapons Convention and is entirely unacceptable.

Norway has full confidence in the British investigation and takes the UK Government's assessments most seriously.

The Norwegian authorities will remain in close contact with British authorities, and other allies, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Thank you, Mr. Chair
