A Nordic–Angolan celebration of sport, sustainability, and solidarity.

About the Initiative

Nordic Beach Week is a diplomatic initiative of Norway and Sweden in Angola, using sport as a platform to promote youth empowerment, gender equality, and international cooperation. Hosted in Lobito, Benguela Province, the event brings together athletes, coaches, sponsors, and changemakers for a week of beach handball, beach volleyball, environmental action, and cultural exchange.

Weekly Programme Highlights

Monday–Thursday, 15–18 September

  • Training camps in beach handball and beach volleyball led by coaches from Norway, Sweden and Angola
  • Seminars and exchange activities for youth, coaches and local organizers

Tuesday, 16 September

  • Opening Dinner (By invitation only)

Wednesday, 17 September

  • Beach Clean-Up Morning: A public environmental action open to all
  • Open Day at the Beach: Families are welcome to bring their children to try beach volleyball and handball
    (10:00–12:00, Restinga Beach)

Thursday, 18 September

  • Scandinavian Movie Night (By invitation only)

Friday, 19 September

  • Sunset Drinks – Business Reception for Scandinavian and Angolan companies (By invitation only)

Saturday, 20 September

  • Beach Handball Show Game featuring national and international players

Sunday, 21 September

  • Beach Volleyball Tournament Finals and closing activities

Purpose and Impact

Nordic Beach Week is part of a broader commitment to:

  • Promote visibility and leadership opportunities for women and girls in sport
  • Build local capacity through youth training and coaching exchange
  • Engage the public in environmental and social responsibility
  • Foster Nordic–Angolan dialogue in business, sport, and development cooperation
