The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) hospital as well as other civilian structures in Old Fangak were attacked from the air on May 3. The organization reports that 7 people were killed. All parties to the conflict in South Sudan have been informed about the location of hospitals and other civilian structures. The UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan is calling for an investigation. Health workers must be protected.
The political and security situation in South Sudan has recently deteriorated in ways not seen since before the current peace agreement was signed in 2018.
‘This is a politically manufactured crisis. I urge South Sudanese leaders to ensure the safety and freedom of all citizens, including political opponents, and to return to dialogue urgently aimed at achieving a political solution. This way they will put their people first.'
