Thank you, Mr. Chair.
As we approach three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we remain unwavering in our resolve that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved on Ukraine’s terms, through strength, not submission.
Anything less would reward aggression and invite further instability. To truly shift the trajectory of this conflict, we must redouble our efforts. The stronger Ukraine stands on the battlefield, the greater its leverage at the negotiating table—and the higher the chances of securing a just and enduring peace.
Europe must do more for Ukraine – and Norway is stepping up. Allies have not only met but far exceeded their commitments, providing over 50 billion euros. This demonstrates our unwavering support. But to truly shift the course of the war, we must do more. Yesterday, my government therefore committed an additional 1.2 billion NOK for further air defence measures in Poland, reinforcing our steadfast dedication to Ukraine’s security by protecting key supply lines in and out of Ukraine.
Together with our allies and partners in the Nordic-Baltic region, in the EU, in NATO, and beyond, we will continue to support Ukraine in the fight for its freedom and its future. Not only as an act of solidarity, but as an investment in the future of a continent that must not be shaped by aggression, but by the rule of law and the will of its peoples.
Even as Russia weakens, its disruptive influence on the rules-based order endures. Our response must be clear: The only sustainable peace is one that Ukraine achieves through its own agency, with the support of her allies and partners, and on terms that respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ukraine and her European allies must have a seat at the negotiating table. Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Norway continues to stand with Ukraine—today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes.
Lastly, we continue to call on Russia for the immediate release of the three illegally detained SMM colleagues Vadym Golda, Maxim Petrov, and Dmytro Shabanov.
Thank you
