Thank you, Mr. Chair.
Norway fully aligns with the statement of the European Union. Let me add the following remarks in my national capacity.
Last Sunday Russia launched 145 drones against Ukraine, most of them directed towards Odessa. This is the largest drone attack since the start of Russia’s brutal aggression against Ukraine, causing even more devastating consequences for Ukraine's civilian population. This night Kyiv was hit again.
The scale of Russia's ruthless attacks on Ukraine also became strikingly evident during the visit of Norway's Minister of Defence to Odessa on October 29-30, where the Minister visited a Ukrainian rehabilitation centre for wounded soldiers, to examine how Norway can contribute to enhance Ukraine's sanitary services and strengthen medical rehabilitation for soldiers. War results in losses to all involved parties, and the rehabilitation of injured and sick soldiers is key to reducing human suffering.
Ukraine must also be able to defend against the air attacks. To support the defence of Ukraine’s sovereignty Norway has previously committed itself to donate six F-16 fighter jets within 2025. During the Minister of Defence visit, the air defensive-package was further increased to 1.3 billion NOK. This package will, among other things, provide weapons and spare parts for the F-16, to ensure a lasting and well-functioning air defence. This grant, in cooperation with the other participants in the Air Force Capability Coalition, will contribute to improving Ukraine's air defence.
Furthermore, the UK and Norway are leading the Maritime Capability Coalition aimed at strengthening Ukraine's naval and coastal defence. Through this coalition, Norway and the UK work together to coordinate the maritime capability support of multiple countries for Ukraine. During his visit, the Norwegian Minister also announced an increase of 50 million NOK through the Maritime Capability Coalition before the end of this year, and a donation of 130 inflatable dinghies.
Mr. Chair,
Norway remains steadfast in its commitment to aid Ukraine, both its military defence and direct support to its civilians.
Russia started this war. Russia can choose to end it at any time.
Thank you
