Statement on the Russian Federation's ongoing Aggression against Ukraine

As delivered by Ambassador Anne-Kirsti Karlsen to the Permanent Council, Vienna, 21 March 2024.

Madame Chair,

Norway fully aligns with the statement just made by the EU. However, allow me to emphasize the following points in my national capacity:

Through all means at our disposal, we are attempting to ascertain the fate of the victims of Russian aggression in the occupied territories of Ukraine. This week, another report from the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine documented, among other things, systematic and relentless torture of prisoners of war, conflict-related sexual abuse and rape, as well as the transfer of people, including children, and cultural heritage from Ukraine to Russia. It is both our right and duty to investigate these actions and hold Russia accountable.

Norway reaffirms its unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. We will continue to stand with Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes.
