There is a 100 % vacancy at the Norwegian Embassy in Damascus for a locally employed Office Coordinator

 

The Norwegian Embassy to Lebanon on Syria’s office in Damascus
contributes to maintaining and strengthening Norway’s diplomatic relations with Syria, promoting peace and stability, and supporting human rights and democratic development. The embassy monitors regional developments and follows up Norwegian humanitarian and development assistance to Syria. There are currently two local employees at the Damascus office of the Norwegian Embassy to Lebanon and Syria, this role is the third.

   

The embassy is looking for a reliable and service-minded team member to coordinate office operations, organize diplomatic visits, manage administrative tasks, and maintain communication with Syrian authorities, while contributing to the embassy’s broader engagement in Syria. The position requires strong analytical and administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic, international environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities   

·      Coordinate the office in Damascus

·      Organizing the program for visits to Syria and assisting incoming visits, delegations, etc.

·      Following current events, provide analytical support and news updates from Syrian press and society.

·      Drafting note verbales and other communication in Arabic and English

·      Maintaining contact with the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates

·      Assist with general administrative tasks when required.   

·      Assist colleagues when necessary and perform other tasks assigned by the Ambassador.   

 

Requirements    

·      Experience from a similar role at an Embassy, international organizations, civil society organisations or government is preferable, but not required.   

·      Excellent written and oral skills in English and Arabic. Knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.   

·      Analytical capabilities

·      Afinity with administrative work

·      No criminal record.

The above-mentioned duties and responsibilities can be amended by the Ambassador. On-the-job training will, if needed, be provided by the Embassy.  

 

Terms and conditions: Salary is determined according to qualifications. The employment relationship is generally regulated by local law, but tax on income from the Norwegian state in Syria is taxed in Norway.
