Vacancy - Consular officer (Temporary, full-time position)

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canberra represents Norway in Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Samoa, and Vanuatu. The Embassy has a vacancy for a temporary, full-time position as Consular officer, from Mid-August 2026 until 31 December 2027.

Job Objective/Main Tasks

  • Be part of a small consular team that processes applications for Norwegian passports/personal numbers and follows up consular e-mail/telephone inquiries.
  • Participate in the Embassy’s emergency preparedness and response team.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as required.
  • The Head of Mission may adjust the portfolio in accordance with the needs of the Embassy and the qualifications of the candidate.

Essential Requirements

  • Australian citizenship or a valid work permit in Australia.
  • Physical attendance at the workplace.
  • Higher education (may be compensated by relevant work experience).
  • Proficiency in Norwegian and fluency in English.
  • Experience from working with consular matters.
  • High attendance to details and work in accordance with relevant rules and regulations.

Desirable Requirements

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently, while also being a motivated team player.
  • Ability to perform under time pressure.
  • Experience from working at a diplomatic mission.
  • Knowledge of the Norwegian rules and regulations in consular matters.
