Visitor’s visa and residence permit
A visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other Schengen countries for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days. A residence permit gives you the opportunity to work in Norway and to stay for more than 90 days.
Information to applicants in Sri Lanka:
Citizens of Sri Lanka must apply for a visitor's visa. Likewise, citizens of Sri Lanka need a residence permit in order to work or take up residence for longer than 90 days.
Applications for visa and residence permits for Sri Lanka citizens going to Norway are handled by the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi. The same applies for Sri Lankan citizens going to Iceland for up to 90 days (Schengen visa).
But, you still apply in Colombo, and collect in Colombo!
Although the place for case processing is in New Delhi you do not have to go there. You can apply from VFS application center in Colombo (external link). Your passport(s) will be returned to the Visa Application Centre in Colombo.

Norway will no longer process Schengen visas on behalf of Finland for applicants in Sri Lanka.
From the 1st of May 2023 the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi will no longer be handling applications from Sri Lanka on behalf of Finland.
The last date to hand in applications to the Norway VFS Visa center in Colombo will be 17th of April. Cases will not be accepted after this date.
