Visitor’s visa and residence permit

A visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other Schengen countries for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days. A residence permit gives you the opportunity to work in Norway and to stay for more than 90 days.

Citizens of Sri Lanka (holding a Sri Lankan passport) need to apply for a visitor's visa to enter Norway. If you plan to work or stay longer than 90 days, you need to apply for a residence permit to enter Norway.

All applications must be submitted through Colombo | vfsglobal. You must book an appointment before you can submit your application.

If you have any questions regarding your application, please refer to the VFS application center in Colombo (external link).

Applications for visa and residence permits for Sri Lanka citizens going to Norway are processed by the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi. The same applies for Sri Lankan citizens visiting Denmark or Iceland for up to 90 days (Schengen visa).

Please note that Norway no longer represents Finland (since 1 May 2023) or Sweden (since 1 June 2026) in visa matters. For information on visas to Finland or Sweden, please contact the relevant authorities of the respective country.
