Roar “Rob” Haugsdal (born 1975), married, three children (14, 16, 23) is the Norwegian Ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan.
Roar Haugsdal has attended and graduated officer’s school in the Norwegian Army and served in the Norwegian Armed Forces (Military Police) for eight years, including one year in Bosnia Herzegovina (SFOR) in 1999. He has an Honorary Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences (Cand.Mag) and a Master Degree in Political Science. He has worked for the Norwegian Refugee Council in Burundi (2005) and for the Norwegian Red Cross.
He started his diplomatic career in 2006 as a Foreign Service Trainee and has served as Second Secretary in The Hague, Netherlands, as First Secretary in Amman, Jordan, and as Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Amman. In 2015 - 2018 he served as Senior Adviser responsible for Iraq and Jordan (2015-17) and the Horn of Africa, Libya and Yemen (2017-18) in the Humanitarian Affairs Department.
From 2018 to 2021 Haugsdal served as Minister Counsellor and Chargè d’affaires a.i. at the Royal Norwegian Embassy Office, permanently based in Baghdad. From 2021 to 2024 he served as Senior Faculty Adviser/Policy Director from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Norwegian Defence University College, Senior Executive Course, which is Norway’s top level strategic management course.
