Visitor’s visa and residence permit

Citizens of Suriname must apply for a visa to visit Schengen up to 90 days. Likewise, citizens of Suriname need a residence permit in order to work or take up residence for longer than 90 days.

The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York is responsible for visas and residence permits for North, Central and South America. Other Norwegian Embassies and Consulates in this area are not involved in the process and should not be contacted regarding immigration cases. No Honorary Consuls are involved with immigration cases.

The Embassy of the Netherlands in Paramaribo receives applications for Schengen visas on behalf of Norway through VFS application center in Suriname. Please refer to their website for details and contact information.

Applications for residence permit for Norway are handled by the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York, United States.

Applications must be submitted through VFS Global in Brazil with prior appointment.

Applicants who can legally travel to the United States, may also submit applications at a VFS application center in the United States, or alternatively at another VFS application center in South America, which collaborates with the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York.
