The main tasks and functions of the Embassy involve following political and economic developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina; promoting Norwegian interests and values, and good bilateral relations; providing consular services to Norwegian citizens, and assisting Norwegian companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Embassy also manages part of the development cooperation portfolio of the Norwegian Government. You can read more about the projects currently supported by the Embassy here.

The Norwegian Embassy in Sarajevo was opened in 1996.

The Embassy staff counts 14 persons, of which 2 are diplomats, + 1 intern.

Mr. Olav Reinertsen is Norway’s Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ambassador Reinertsen presented his credentials to the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Sefik Dzaferovic, on 29 July 2020. Ambassador Reinertsen started his professional career at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 and has served as diplomat at several postings abroad, including Dublin, Strasbourg and Brussels. Mr. Reinertsen has good knowledge of the region from his previous experience. For four years he was Head of the Secretariat for the Western Balkans Investment Framework, WBIF, at DG Enlargement at the European Commission in Brussels. He has also experience from the private sector, amongst other as Project Director at the Norwegian telecom-provider, Telenor.
