State Secretary Marianne Hagen, Visit to Angola

The State Secretary Marianne Hagen, was from 10.09.2019 to 12.09.2019, in Luanda, for political and human rights consultations.       

In the context of strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Angola and the Kingdom of Norway, the third meeting on political consultations was held in Luanda on 11 August 2019. The meeting was held under the Memorandum of Understanding between Angola and Norway signed on 25 May 2016 to promote friendship relations and to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries on the basis of principles of respect, equality and mutual benefits.

H.E. Marianne Hagen, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, and H.E. Tete António, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, who co-chaired the meeting, acknowledged the importance of this bilateral mechanism aimed at increasing political and diplomatic relations and cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, petroleum, tourism, fisheries, higher education and human rights, among others.

The two Secretaries of State also analyzed bilateral and regional issues, namely the internal situation in their respective countries, the ongoing reforms in Angola aimed at improving the business environment and the diversification of the economy. The situation in the Great Lakes region and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, as well as global issues of mutual interest such as cooperation at the UN level, has been addressed by the two interlocutors.

H.E. Marianne Hagen, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, praised Angolan diplomatic initiatives to maintain regional peace and stability and to promote the integration and economic development of the African continent.

 H.E. the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality that was offered to herself and her delegation during her stay in the Republic of Angola.

During her stay in Luanda, H.E. Marianne Hagen held the annual bilateral consultations with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights under the existing protocol between the two States since 2011.
