Travel to Norway
To limit the number of imported cases of COVID-19, Norway will continue to have entry restrictions. However, the infection situation means that certain measures can be eased. The current rules are provided below.
Further easing of entry restrictions
An increasing proportion of the population have been vaccinated and this means that we are now in a position to ease some of the current travel restrictions. However, while we are further opening the border, we must be prepared for the possibility that the situation may change rapidly. The infection situation remains complex and serious in many places around the world,’ says Monica Mæland, Minister of Justice and Public Security.
Travel advice rescinded for certain countries on the EU’s list of safe third countries
As of Monday 19 July, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is withdrawing its travel advice for the following countries: Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, Qatar and Serbia.

The Norwegian Government has decided to allocate NOK 10 billion over a period of five years for a new fund that will invest in renewable energy in developing countries with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
New strategy for promoting freedom of expression in foreign and development policy
‘Freedom of expression is one of the most important rights we have in open and democratic societies. Defending freedom of expression means defending the right of all individuals to express their opinions and participate in society on an equal footing. Norway continues support for UXO survey and clearance in Lao PDR
The Government of the United States of America and the Government of Norway announced on May 7 that UXO survey and clearance operators The HALO Trust and Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare represented by the National Regulatory Authority for the UXO/Mine Action Sector (NRA).

Norway introduces its strictest entry rules since March 2020
To limit the risk of transmitting the significantly more contagious variant of the coronavirus, the Government is imposing far stricter rules on foreign nationals who seek entry to Norway. In general, only foreign nationals who reside in Norway will be permitted to enter.

Changes in the travel advice from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 15 July
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is introducing new exceptions to the travel advice against non-essential travel to all countries. The new exceptions apply to individual countries in the Schengen area/EEA from 15 July.
Norway supporting international promotion of freedom of expression and freedom of the press
Norway is maintaining its international support for freedom of expression and freedom of the press by extending its cooperation with International Media Support for four years. According to the agreement, funding provided by Norway will be used to improve access to reliable information, particularly during crises, promote high-quality journalism, and counter hate speech. It will also be used in efforts to protect journalists and media workers in 40 countries.
Norway elected to the UN Security Council
Today, Norway was elected as a member of the UN Security Council for the period 2021–2022. ‘We would like to thank the UN member states for the confidence they have shown in us. The world needs more international cooperation to promote peace and security. We will make use of our seat on the Security Council to strengthen this work,’ said Prime Minister Erna Solberg.
