Parliament Election 2021

The Norwegian Parliament election and the Sámi Parliament election are held on September 3rd in Norway.

Advanced voting is available via the Norwegian Consulate General in Houston.

Eligible voters

Anyone who meets the following three criteria are allowed to vote:

  • Must be a Norwegian citizen
  • Has turned 18 by the end of 2021
  • Is, or has been, registered in the population register as resident in Norway

To vote in The Sámi Parliamentary Election voters must also be listed in the Sámi census.

Advance voting
Advanced voting in person starts July 1st and ends August 27th. Please note that we have pushed the ending date forward a few days compared to the official end date (September 3rd) to allow for postal service from Houston to Norway. Valid ID with your Norwegian National ID Number (Personnummer) is required.

Voting at the Norwegian Seamen's Church in Pasadena
We will have a stand at the Norwegian Seamen's Church two Saturdays where you can cast your vote in person. The dates are July 10th and August 21st, from 11 AM to 2 PM. No appointment is required. 

Mail-in ballot
Norwegians abroad who meet the criteria can also cast their vote by mail-in ballot. Please contact the Norwegian Consulate General in Houston by email at consular.houston@mfa.no to request relevant documentation (ballot paper, ballot paper envelope, cover envelope, shipping envelope) by mail. You will receive:

  • Parliamentary Election
    Ballot paper = The voter marks with an “X” which party he/she votes for.
    Brown envelope = This is for the ballot paper. Must be sealed.
    Cover envelope = The brown envelope goes in here. The voter must seal it and fill out the information on the envelope. The voter and a witness must both sign. Please note; if the cover envelope is not sealed the vote will be rejected.
    Shipping envelope = The cover envelope goes here. It must be sent to the Consulate General in Houston. Regular postage rates apply.
  • The Sámi Parliamentary Election
    Blue paper = This is the ballot paper. The voter writes the name of the party he/she votes for.
    Blue envelope = This is for the ballot paper. Must be sealed
    Cover envelope = The brown envelope goes in here. The voter must seal it and fill out the information on the envelope. The voter and a witness must both sign. Please note; if the cover envelope is not sealed the vote will be rejected.
    Shipping envelope = The cover envelope goes here. It must be sent to the Consulate General in Houston. Regular postage rates apply.
The deadline for Mail-in ballots is August 20th
