On Tuesday 12th of September, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in collaboration with NORWEP organized a renewable energy forum with focus on solar and hydropower in Uganda.

Hon Eng Irene Nafuna Muloni, Minister of Energy and Minerals Development of Uganda and HE Norwegian Ambassador Susan Eckey held opening speeches at the event, at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. 125 people participated in the forum, including a delegation of about 25 participants from Norway as well as over 30 companies and organizations from Uganda, Including MEMD.

Below is an extract from the speech given by Ambassador Eckey:

“It is an honor and pleasure for me to welcome you to the “Uganda – Norway Renewable Energy Forum”. In the days of hurricanes, floods and other climate related events this seminar could not be more timely! Our event today is in support of the Paris Agreement on combatting climate change, and will showcase how Norwegian business together with Ugandans can be part of a sustainable energy solution. Energy access, economic growth and profitable businesses can go hand in hand, if done right.

In June last year, Uganda and Norway celebrated 25 years of energy cooperation. The role and importance of private sector to support the further development of the Uganda energy sector was particularly highlighted. I am impressed to see such an interest from the private sector – both Ugandan and Norway – here today. This emphasizes that private sector companies are keen to work together to provide electricity to support industrial and social development in Uganda.”
