Participants from Norway, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden competed in a variety of sports during the Nordic Sports Day on Saturday 20th of January. In the evening, the triumphs were celebrated at Faze2 restaurant.
Hundreds of people, 300 to be exact, from the Nordic community in Uganda participated and competed for their respective Nordic countries. Sports included running, volleyball, dodgeball, Viking chess, football and swimming. Norway did well in the football tournament where we ran away with both 1st and 3rd place! A visual highlight was the fun relay in swimming where participants had to cross the pool riding on a pink flamingo!
After a long day with intense (but friendly) competition, Denmark ran away with 1st place and winner of the Nordic Sports Day 2018 as a whole.
The day was finished off with a dinner party at Faze2 in Kampala where the trophy was handed over from last year’s winner Sweden to the new winner Denmark.
In the raffle, we were able to collect over 2 million Ugandan shillings to “Street Child Care Uganda” (SCCU). Started and run by ex-street children, SCCU provides a home and education for street children in Kampala.
Thank you to all the people who showed up and a big thank you to the volunteers who helped out. We also want to thank all the sponsors of the day, especially Malthe Winje who sponsored all the t-shirts and caps; and Rwenzori water that ensured our participants stayed hydrated throughout the day.
Congratulations to Denmark on your victory – we will beat you next year!
