Land mines and other explosive remnants of war still pose a great danger to civilians in many countries, and both Thailand and Cambodia have taken important measures to clear their land of mines. Their continued work is crucial in order to reach our goal of a mine free world by 2025.
Norway was handed the presidency of the Mine Ban Treaty on 30 November 2018. As part of our global humanitarian engagement, Norway is working to combat the use of weapons that have a major and unacceptable impact on civilians. Norway has been a consistent partner in the field of mine action, being one of the five largest donors to global mine action and playing a leading role in the adoption of the Mine Ban Treaty in 1997.
