Norway, represented by Deputy Director Gry Rabe Henriksen from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister Counsellor Vegard Holmelid from the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, are participating at the very important ASEAN Conference on Reducing Marine Debris in the ASEAN Region.

The conference, taking place from 22 to 23 November in Phuket, is trying to identify concrete and innovative solutions to one of the worlds most pressing environmental problems, namely marine plastic pollution.

This is an important and necessary discussion to have, in a region of the world where this problem is both a serious and rapidly growing. Yearly, 8 million tonnes of plastic litter is dumped into the worlds oceans from vessels, coasts and rivers.

Norway is commited to contribute to identifying and implementing effective solutions to this common environmental challenge facing the world. The Norwegian Government has allocated 150 million NOK to this end in 2018.
