Vacancy at the Embassy of Norway in Khartoum, pt Nairobi Political Adviser

The Embassy of Norway in Khartoum, temporarily relocated to Nairobi, represents Norway in Sudan. Norway’s engagement in Sudan includes support to the political process (stop the war, re-start civilian-led transition), humanitarian response, and development cooperation.

The Embassy has a temporary 1-year vacancy (with possibility for extension) as Political Adviser on Sudan. The position is available from August 2024.

 

Main duties:

  • Reporting on political processes, human rights and economic development related to Sudan.
  • Dialogue and network building with partners and stakeholders. These may be located both inside and outside of Sudan.
  • Represent the Embassy in meetings with international partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Some grant management related to the thematic focus is expected.
  • Give assistance to the Embassy administration, including organizing meetings, travels, and bookings.
  • The Head of Mission may decide changes to assigned duties. Restructuring of the work done at the foreign service mission may impact on the main duties.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in political science/social sciences/economics/development studies, or equivalent, is a requirement.
  • Knowledge about the political, human rights and economic development context in Sudan is a requirement.
  • Experience in political reporting and analysis is a requirement.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic .
  • Excellent Arabic required.
  • Valid work and residence permit in Kenya is a requirement.

Employment modalities

The position is based in Nairobi under a local contract. Remuneration as programme officer. A professional and conducive working environment will be offered, in addition to insurance and regulatory pension benefits. The programme officers will be based at the Norwegian Embassy in Khartoum, currently co-located with the Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi.
