The yearly crosscountry skiing race will take place again on Saturday, February 18th.
Saturday, February 18th, the Skarvenrace will take place in Pyeongchang. Located in the exact same area where the Olymic Games will be held in 2018, the race willl take off from Alpensia Olympic Crosscountry Stadium, where the contestants will compete in 3 divisions: 2 km, 5 km and 15 km.
Skarvenrace is an ongoing tradition that was started in 2009 by the then-Norwegian ambassador to South Korea, Mr. Didrik Tønseth. The race has succeeded in communicating the Norwegian love for crosscountry skiing to many Koreans, who come in ever-greater numbers every year. While a great majority of the contestants are Koreans, the race is also open to non-Koreans, and there are quite a few international participants each year.
Skarvenrace is first and foremost an opportunity to enjoy being together in the nature. It serves as an arena where enthusiasts of crosscountry skiing, both participants and audience, as well as people who appreciate spending their time outside in the fresh air. Whether or not one comes for the exercise, the thrill of the competition, the food, or the experience of being outside, Skarvenrace is the perfect place to spend ones Saturday.
Representatives of the embassy, including the ambassador, will be present to wish all the contestants good luck. We hope to see you there as well!
