The Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria is looking for a knowledgeable and dynamic Programme Officer/Adviser on Peace and Reconciliation.
The Embassy employs 25 staff, working in teams dealing with political affairs; economic and trade affairs; development, visa, and consular issues. The Embassy is accredited to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia.
The programme officer/adviser will be part of both the development and political affairs teams at the Embassy.
Duties & Responsibilities
The programme officer/adviser will be working on peace and reconciliation issues, in collaboration with diplomats. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, analyse and monitor political developments, trends and emerging issues related to peace and reconciliation in South Africa and side accredited countries, with special attention to Zimbabwe
- Support relations and facilitate meetings with relevant multilateral organisations, bilateral partners, civil society and other relevant counterparts
- Grant management of the Embassy’s development programmes relating to Peace and Reconciliation
- Assisting the Embassy in any other areas of work, as needed
Desired Experience & Qualification
- A post-graduate degree in a relevant field, such as International Relations, Governance or similar
- Minimum 3-5 years of working experience in a relevant field
- Practical experience from peace building/conflict management processes in the region
- Applicants must be able to work as part of a team, have strong analytical, problem-solving and networking skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and be able to work independently, efficiently and to take initiatives
- Willingness to travel

French as a both written and oral working language an advantage
- Experience with grant management is an advantage
- A robust network within related fields in South Africa and Zimbabwe is an advantage
- Experience from working with or in Zimbabwe is an advantage

- Legal residence and valid working permit in South Africa
