Reopening of some of the services of the Visa Section

On 15th June 2020, The Directorate of Immigration(UDI) changed the regulations on who can be allowed to entry into Norway.

From 23rd  June 2020, everyone that has been granted family immigration in Norway with a person residing in Norway, can be accepted to travel to Norway. For more information on who this applies to, see here.

Consequently, the Norwegian Embassy has, in agreement with VFS, decided to partially open our services again. As of 22nd June, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban VFS offices will be open on Mondays from 9am to 12pm. The application center will only be open for submission of residence permit applications.  Detailed information found here https://www.vfsglobal.com/Norway/SouthAfrica/

The Visa Application Center in Lilongwe, Malawi, remain closed as there is no flights between Malawi and South Africa and thus no courier possibilities.  Further, the visa representation agreements are still suspended.  Norway is currently not issuing visas on behalf of other Schengen countries in Malawi.

Please note that as a general rule due to the Covid-19 situation, you will not be granted a Schengen visa to travel to Norway. For more information about this and also the few exceptions from the general rule, please see UDIs information page about Corona.

Embassy staff are working remotely and are occasionally present at the office.  Enquiries could be directed to [email protected]
