Under the Norway grants 2009-2014, €8.4 million was earmarked for combating domestic and gender-based violence in Slovakia. Norway grants support the programme in several countries, however the programme in Slovakia is the biggest one. The programme has been very successful and thanks to the funding from the Norway grants, the number of counseling services have doubled (10 new centers opened) and the number of available family places tripled.
A special thanks was given to the Norwegian Center for Stress and Traumatic Studies, which has been the partner throughout the whole period. The have followed the development of the centre providing their expertise and experience. The cooperation has been very good and they wants to continue as a partner in the next programming period (2014-2021).
Norway grants will continue to support the programme under the new grant period 2014-2021, which is currently being negotiated. In addition to today's structure a new element of work life balance will be added to the programme, which aims at empowering women.
