Studying and sport activities in a primary school in Novi Pazar will become more pleasant, following Norwegian support for the school reconstruction.

On September 4, the new school year in the Stefan Nemanja school in Novi Pazar kicked off on a high note – with special opening ceremony after renovation.

„This is a big day for our school and thanks to the support of a great friend – Kingdom of Norway, we now have modern conditions for work,“ Edin Dugopoljac, director of the school, said openning the ceremony.

The reconstruction works, which started on 28 February, included the roof and the rainwater evacuation system, heating system and the interior of the School. The new roof will prevent further leakage and moisture, while the school's energy efficiency will be increased thanks to the reconstruction of heating and switching from oil to biofuels, and the installation of facade insulation. Its 1,135 pupils and 89 teachers will now have a warm and safe school to learn and play.

This was provided by the Kingdom of Norway and implemented by UNOPS (360,000 euro) through the extension of the Serbia Rehabilitation Support after Floods Project (Project). Novi Pazar and the Public Investment Management Office also contributed to the reconstruction of the school interior with 70,000 euro.

According to Sandra Nedeljkovic from the Public Investment Management Office, this project is a good example of successful cooperation between republican and local authorities and donors

Welcoming pupils, Norwegian Ambassador Arne Sannes Bjornstad said: “you are the best! Use this school to learn hard and create your future.” He also expressed his hope that the pupils will soon see how Novi Pazar further develops with new investments and construction of new roads.

Pupils also seemed happy with how their school now looks and have one more reason to look forward to the new school year.
