New round of peace talks between Philippine Government and NDFP

The Philippine Government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) will meet for a new round of peace talks in the town of Noordwijk in the Netherlands May 27 to June 1.

“The Philippine Government and the NDFP are determined to continue the peace process. There have been several meetings between the parties here in Manila during the past weeks, and we hope it will be possible to take the process even further when the parties meet again for another formal round of talks”, says Erik Førner, the Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines.

This will be the fifth round of talks since formal negotiations were resumed in August 2016. The talks will be facilitated by the Norwegian Special Envoy to the peace process, Ms. Elisabeth Slåttum, and her team.

The armed conflict between the Philippine Government and the communist movement’s armed wing has lasted for almost 50 years. Norway has been facilitator of the peace process since 2001.
