Applications for a visitor’s visa or residence permit to Norway submitted in the Philippines are now sent to the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, which has become a regional hub for immigration cases from Southeast Asia.

  • Where to apply?

As before, all applicants in the Philippines must apply in person at the VFS Global Application Center in Manila or Cebu. VFS Global will ensure that the applications are sent to Bangkok for further processing. You will still be able to collect the decision documents at VFS Global.

 Introduction of a courier fee

As before, there will be an application fee payable online when you register your application in the Application Portal Norway, and a service fee of 25,67 euro charged by VFS Global. In addition, applications submitted in the Philippines will also be subject to a courier fee of 3 euros to cover the cost of sending the application documents between the Visa Application Center and Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok. These fees are payable in cash to VFS Global on your application day.

For information about fees, including refund policies, see the website of VFS Global and UDI's fee overview.

  • Extended processing time for Schengen visas to Norway

We highly recommend that you apply well in advance of the date you plan to travel and at least 4 weeks prior to your planned trip. You may apply 6 months ahead of your planned departure.

The processing time for Schengen visas to Norway is normally up to 15 days from the date the application is received at the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok. Please take note that you should account for an additional 2-5 days each way for courier between VFS Global in the Philippines and the Embassy in Bangkok.

  • Extended processing time for Residence Permits

The embassy in Manila is no longer processing applications for residence permits. From this date all applications will be processed by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). The Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok is responsible for forwarding the applications to UDI. As a consequence, applicants from the Philippines must be aware that the waiting time will be longer than before. You can track the UDI’s current waiting time on this page: https://www.udi.no/en/word-definitions/waitingtime/.  Please note that you will receive regular updates from the UDI on your application status by email or SMS until a decision has been made in your case.

  • Ongoing applications

You will be notified about the decision either by the VFS Application Center or by the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok. If you have given someone a Power of Attorney to represent you in your case, the notification will be sent to the person you have authorised.

Travelling to a different Schengen country?

Please note that Norway will no longer represent Sweden, Finland and Estonia in the processing of visa applications from the Philippines. If you are travelling to one of these countries, please refer to their respective Diplomatic or Consular Missions in the Philippines or VFS Global for further information.

Norway will however continue to represent Iceland, which means that visa applications for Iceland also are sent to and processed by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok.
