New regional system for immigration cases
As from 3rd August 2018, applications for visa and residence permit will be processed by the Norwegian embassy in Accra, Ghana. However, applications will still be received through VFS Global in Lagos and Abuja after this date.
Apply and collect as before!
You will still be able to submit the application and collect the decision letter from the same visa application center as before. Whereas the application procedures remain the same, please take note of the following changes when applying to go to Norway from 3rd August:
- Extended processing time
The processing time for Schengen visas to Norway is normally up to 15 calendar days from the date the application is received at the Embassy. In some cases, applications are sent to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI), and the processing time for these may be up to 30 days. In exceptional cases UDI may take up to 60 days to make a decision.
Please take note that you should allow for an additional 3-5 days for the transportation of your documents between the visa application centre and Accra. We highly recommend that you apply well in advance, at least 4 weeks prior to your planned trip.
- Introduction of a courier fee
As before, there will be a visa application fee, and a service fee charged by VFS Global. In addition, there will be a courier fee to cover transportation of your documents between the visa application center and the Norwegian embassy in Accra. For more information about fees, please consult the website of VFS Global.
- Already submitted applications
Applications for Schengen visa submitted prior to 3rd August 2018 will be processed and finalized by the embassy in Abuja. If you have applied for a residence permit, you will be notified about the decision either by the application center or by the responsible hub embassy. If you have given someone a power of attorney to represent you in your case, the notification will be sent to the this person directly.
