Improving Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response in Far West Nepal

Giulia Vallese, representing UNFPA, shakes hands with H. E. Mr. Lasse Bjørn Johannessen after signing the agreement.

Today, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu signed an agreement extending the cooperation with UNFPA Nepal, and their work for improving the situation for women and girls in Far West Nepal.

This new support for three years, with a total amount of NOK 12 million, will be a continuation of a number of ongoing activities that were implemented in the first year of the program.

The project has contributed to the operation of safe houses for survivors of sexual and gender based violence, and trained personnel both from the health sector and from the police, to handle cases related to rape and gender based violence.

The project also focuses on raising awareness around sexual and gender based violence throughout the local media.

We support the UNFPAs aim to make Nepal a safer country for women and girls!
