PRESS RELEASE: The Norwegian Minister of International Development, Mr. Nikolai Astrup visits Nepal

The Norwegian Minister of International Development, Honourable Mr. Nikolai Astrup, is visiting Nepal from 6-7 of March, 2018.

The purpose of the visit is to conduct political consultations and discussions on the bilateral development cooperation between Norway and Nepal. During the visit, the Minister will visit Bigu Rural Municipality in Dolakha district Province No. 3 where he will inaugurate a school constructed with the support of the Norwegian Embassy. He will interact with the local level leaders and the school management committee.

The Minister will also visit the Khimti Hydropower plant of Himal Power Limited (HPL). Norwegian investors are the majority shareholders in the HPL.

Nepal is one of Norway’s long-term development partners. Norway’s main sectors for development assistance to Nepal are energy, education, and good governance. The Royal Norwegian Embassy supports Nepal with approx. 30 million USD annually, in addition to over 14 million USD through multilateral channels.
