Senior Policy Advisor

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon announces a vacancy for the position as a Senior Policy Advisor. The main tasks of this position are to monitor the political situation in Myanmar, provide in-depth analysis and reports on relevant topics, and to follow up and manage projects. The Senior Policy Advisor will assist the Ambassador and other diplomatic staff in incoming visits, field trips and meetings. The Senior Policy Advisor is expected to be able to work independently and identify and produce relevant political reports as well as contribute to the Embassy´s both routines and immediate tasks. The working language is English. Command of Myanmar language is necessary.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in political science, law or related field
  • Minimum 5 years work experience
  • Experience from project management
  • Documented ability to independently analyze and draft political reports
  • Understanding of Myanmar and the political landscape in Southeast Asia
  • Understanding of the political context in Myanmar leading up to the 2020 elections, Human Rights situation and Myanmar’s democratic transition
  • Knowledge about key stakeholders such as Government institutions, UN agencies and civil society organizations in Myanmar
  • Understanding of current affairs - interest in following the news cycles and different media streams. Ability to explain key developments
  • Very good command of both written and spoken English
  • Team player, good communication skills
