As the Norwegian Ambassador to Myanmar, I am pleased to welcome you to the web site of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon. The Embassy was established in Yangon in November 2012 and in 2015, the Embassy established the Nordic House, a unique collaborative project together with Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
On this web site you will find information about Norway, the Norwegian engagement in Myanmar in various sectors as well as consular information and resources specifically for Norwegian citizens.
Norway is committed to continue supporting the democratic transition, the peace process and economic development in Myanmar. The Embassy assists Myanmar’s in building capacity in management of natural resource, particularly energy and environment/climate change. Furthermore, we are pleased to see the increasing interest for Myanmar from Norwegian companies.
Since 2012 there have several high level visits on political level between Myanmar and Norway. The former President of Myanmar Thein Sein visited Norway in February 2013. The former Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg formally opened the Norwegian Embassy in Yangon in 2012 and Foreign Minister Børge Brende visited in December 2014. Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja visited Myanmar in December 2014 to confirm the good relation between the two countries and the strong relation between the people of the two countries. State Counsellor of Myanmar Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visited Norway in April 2012 to give her Nobel Peace Prize speech in Oslo.
