Women in Peacekeeping

Monday 28 October 2019 at 3 - 6 PM, in Conference Room 12, UNHQ.

The Government of South Africa in collaboration with UN Women and the Governments of Canada, Malawi, Tanzania, Namibia, Ghana and Norway invites you to a Women, Peace and Security Agenda discussion on

The advancement of an inclusive, sustainable and transformative peace and security agenda: Women in Peacekeeping

Where: Conference Room 12, United Nations Headquarters.
When: 3 - 6 PM

The side event will showcase the roles of female peacekeepers. In particular, it will highlight the experiences of SA Peacekeepers who participated in the UN “Force Intervention Brigade” (FIB), the first of its kind for the Democratic Republic of Congo as part of United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

The event aims to showcase the capabilities and talents of women in uniform, create a platform for women peacekeepers to share their experiences and for Member States to share best practices of deploying women in peacekeeping missions.

Aligned with the priorities of UN Women focusing on gender equity and empowerment of women, this platform will be opportune to call for a greater and more visible role of women in peace support operations, including exchanging views on strategies that will ensure increased numbers in the deployment of women in peacekeeping operations at all levels, including in decision-making processes.
