On June 16, the delegation participated in the Pride Parade in Vienna together with 36 other embassies and delegations. We were proud to walk together with the Diplomats for equality, in an event that was said to gather 200 000 people. The Pride Parade is a celebration of the culture and pride of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI), and also an important event to remember the struggle the LGBTI movement continue to face in many parts of the world.

Diplomats for Equality is an initiative that came into place in 2017, and seeks to commit diplomats, employees of embassies, delegations and permanent missions and international organisations to work together to promote human rights and fundamental freedoms and denounce instances of discrimination and/or persecution of LGBTI persons globally.

“International human rights law grounds itself on the premise that all individuals are entitled to the same rights and freedoms as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Citizens of all societies, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) persons, should be able to live freely without fear of violence or discrimination, and play an active part in society. Because after-all, inclusive and tolerant societies are more prosperous and stable ones. We therefore commit to continuing our work, including in the UN, the OSCE and the EU, to promote respect for, and non-discrimination against, LGBTI persons” -   https://www.diplomatsforequality.org/en/home/

In 2019 Vienna will host the Euro Pride, and the Norwegian delegation is looking forward to participate and to continue to promote the human rights for the LGBTI movement.
