What: The 48th EEA Council will take place on Tuesday 14 November 2017 in Brussels. The EEA Council meets twice a year at ministerial level and provides political impetus for the development of the EEA Agreement. The EEA Council meeting will be chaired by Ms Aurelia Frick, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein. She will be accompanied by Mr Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, and Ms Marit Berger Røsland, Minister of EEA and EU Affairs of Norway. The meeting will be co-chaired by Mr Sven Mikser, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Estonia, representing the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In addition to discussing the overall functioning of the EEA Agreement, the EEA Council will hold a debate on measures to develop the European data economy. Before the meeting of the EEA Council, EEA EFTA Ministers will have an informal political dialogue with EU counterparts on the implications of Brexit for the EEA Agreement. This dialogue on the EEA dimension of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU was launched at the previous EEA Council meeting in May 2017. Discussions will focus on the need to ensure the continuation of a well-functioning homogenous EEA. The Eastern Partnership will also be discussed in the political dialogue.
