Temporary position: locally employed political and communication officer

Vacant position: Locally employed political and communication officer at the permanent mission of Norway to the council of Europe, Strasbourg

The Permanent Mission of Norway to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg is seeking a locally employed temporary staff member from 1 September 2024 to 31 July 2025.  The person concerned will be assigned to both administrative and professional tasks as part of our team.

The Council of Europe is today the most important regional organisation for promoting human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Europe. The Council of Europe plays a pivotal role in creating stability, counteracting conflicts, and building democracy in the 46 Member States. The main tasks of the Permanent Mission of Norway are to promote Norwegian interests in the Council of Europe and to facilitate the participation of Norwegian representatives in the work of the organisation.

There are currently three diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and four local employees at the Permanent Mission of Norway.

The Permanent Mission of Norway is seeking a flexible and versatile person who will contribute to most of the Mission's work areas, both of a professional and administrative nature. The position will be particularly suitable for recent graduates with some work experience who wish to gain international and multilateral experience.

Work assignments

- Participate in the work to promote Norwegian interests in the Council of Europe

- Follow the Council of Europe's work within various subject areas

- Contribute to the Mission's profiling and communication work

- Represent Norway/participate in various rapporteur groups

- Write (drafts of) reports and requests for instructions from capital

- Communicate with various Norwegian ministries

- Assist other local employees in various tasks under their responsibility

- Support at political visits and events

- Assist in the follow-up of Norwegian-supported Council of Europe projects

- The position holder can also be assigned to other tasks

Qualifications

-Higher education

- Excellent written and oral skills in Norwegian (Scandinavian) and English

- Very good written and oral skills in French

- Knowledge of and interest in communication, knowledge of social media

- Good ICT skills

- International experience or experience from Council of Europe’s work areas is an advantage

Terms/conditions

- Salary is determined according to qualifications, in the order of 38,000 – 48,000 Euro gross per year

- The position is regulated by French law, but income from the Norwegian state in France is taxed in Norway for those who are not French citizens.
