Marking the 20th anniversary of UNSC's resolution 1325 this year, The African Union and the United Nations' Office to the African Union with support from Norway jointly launched the commemorative book "She Stands for Peace. 20 Years, 20 Journeys" in the margins of the 33rd AU Summit, 8th of February.
The book celebrates the outstanding and inspirational work done by 20 African women and women-led organizations, in advancing the women, peace and security agenda in Africa by securing peace in their communities. The book captures their stories as narrated by the women themselves, with one chapter dedicated to each of the women, girls and organizations.
"She Stands for Peace" can now be downloaded online. Follow this link for the English version.
Promoting gender equality, the inclusion of women in peacebuilding processes and women's rights are key pillars in Norway's international efforts. In the fourth Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security for 2019-2022, Norway focuses specifically on women's participation and rights in peace talks and negotiations:
"Norway will have a more systematic focus on women, peace and security in our efforts to support the implementation of peace agreements, strengthen the gender perspective in international operations and missions, and increase our efforts for women and girls in our humanitarian work".
