Call to Ocean-Based Climate Action

Yesterday the High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, under the leadership of Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, published its first report and call to Ocean-Based Climate Action - to promote the role of the ocean as a solution to climate change.

The report emphasizes the role of the ocean as a solution to climate change and presents opportunities for action. The members of the High Level Panel urge all actors to join in accelerating progress on key ocean-based climate actions to support the achievement of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. 

The areas for action presented are the following:

  • Invest in Nature-Based Climate Solutions
  • Harness Ocean-Based Renewable Energy
  • Decarbonize Ocean-Industries
  • Secure Sustainable Food for the Future
  • Advance the Deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage
  • Expand Ocean Observation and Research
