New procedure to apply for a visitor’s visa or a residence permit to Norway

As of the 1st of September 2019, the Danish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur will no longer receive applications for visitor’s visa or residence permit on behalf of Norway. Instead, applications must be submitted at the VFS Norway Visa Application center in Bangkok, Thailand, working in partnership with the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok.

These are the changes that you should be aware of:

  • How to apply?

Starting 1st of September 2019 and until 7th of October 2019, all applicants in Malaysia or Brunei must meet and apply in person at the VFS Global Application Center in Bangkok. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently collaborating with VFS Global to open a Norway Visa Application Center in Kuala Lumpur during the fall of 2019, but until then all applicants are advised to meet at the following location:

Norway Visa Application Center,

No.10/104-106 (801-803),

8th Floor, The Trendy Building

Sukhumvit soi 13, Klongtoey-Nua

Wattana, Bangkok 10110.

  • Introduction of a service fee

In addition to the application fee payable online when you register your application in the Application Portal Norway, your application will also be subject to a service fee charged by VFS Global. The service fee is payable to VFS Global on your application day.

For information about fees, including refund policies, see the website of VFS Global and UDI's fee overview: https://www.udi.no/en/word-definitions/fees/.

  • Ongoing applications

Applications for Schengen visa submitted prior to 1st of September 2019 will be processed and finalized by the Danish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

If you have applied for a residence permit prior to 1st of September 2019, you will be notified about the decision by the Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok. If you have given someone Power of attorney to represent you in your case, the notification will be sent to the person you have authorised.
