The Visa section of the Embassy is handling applications mainly from Kenyan and Somali applicants. However, as of August 2018 the Embassy will become a Norwegian visa hub in Africa and will receive applications from Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. In 2019, applications from more African countries will be handled at this Embassy.
The reception of applications has been outsourced to VFS application centers in most of the countries the Embassy covers and all applicants will submit their applications there, while the Embassy is processing these applications through registrations, interviews, DNA-testing and issuing of visas. We are looking for persons who understand the requirement for confidentiality and discretion that the work requires.
The visa officer will mainly be working on general visa and family reunification cases, ID control, application registration, interviews and DNA tests together with colleagues in the visa section. He/she will be required to file and organize the applications and follow up on incoming correspondence, e-mail queries and phone calls. He/she will also be required to show initiative to gain sufficient knowledge of the applicable legislation, internal clerical procedures and work instructions.
These different tasks need to be handled with care and accuracy. We are looking for persons who understand the requirements for the confidentiality and discretion that the work requires. Experience from similar work will be an advantage.
- Good oral communication and writing skills in English and/or Swahili
- Good knowledge of French, Somali and/or a Scandinavian language will be an advantage
- Higher education (university level)
- Good knowledge of computer handling
- The ability to provide relevant information and service to clients
We are looking for a colleague who is a good team-worker, while at the same time self-driven when it comes to performing her/his duties. He/she must show initiative and be interested in acquiring new competences. He/she must be service minded, provide good customer assistance and treat applicants of all backgrounds and origins with respect. He/she should further have good communicative skills and give positive contributions to the good working environment at the Embassy.
The visa officer may, when needed, be required to perform other duties at the Embassy.
