The Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi is the diplomatic representation of the Government of Norway in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives and is situated on Shantipath, Chanakyapuri.
The Embassy is a busy workplace with a total of 15 diplomatic, 33 local staff and two interns. Innovation Norway, our Commercial Section, is also based within the Embassy and has 9 employees.
About the Role
- The Embassy of Norway in New Delhi is seeking a dynamic and experienced advisor for communication and culture. This pivotal role involves enhancing Norway’s strategy through strategic communication initiatives, media engagement, and cultural promotion. The candidate will lead efforts to showcase Norwegian culture, values, and interests, fostering strong bilateral relations between Norway and primarily India, but also Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives.
- Please note that this role requires frequent travel and work outside of regular business hours.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, your key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Communication: Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies to promote Norway’s image in India, utilizing various platforms including social media, press releases, and publications. Manage the Embassy’s social media platforms, assist in drafting speeches, presentations, reports, talking points, and correspondence for the Head of Mission, the Deputy Head of Mission and visiting dignitaries.
- Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with Indian media outlets; manage media monitoring to assess coverage and public perception; proactively engage with journalists to ensure accurate representation of Norwegian initiatives.
- Event Management: Plan, organize, and execute large-scale events such as National Day celebrations, seminars, and cultural gatherings, ensuring they align with the Embassy’s objectives and effectively promote Norwegian culture.
- Cultural Promotion: Identify and pursue opportunities to highlight Norwegian culture in India; collaborate with cultural institutions and artists in Norway and India to facilitate exchanges and joint projects.
- Database Management: Oversee the Embassy’s network database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of contacts and engagements.

Qualifications/Experience required for the Role
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Cultural Studies, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Professional Experience: Preferably at least 7 years of relevant experience in public diplomacy, cultural promotion, or strategic communications, preferably within an international or diplomatic context.
- Media Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in managing media relations, including social media platforms, and a proven track record of successful media campaigns.
- Event Coordination: Proven ability to plan and execute large-scale events, with strong organizational and project management skills.
- Cultural Insight: Understanding of the cultural landscape, with the ability to navigate and bridge cultural differences effectively.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Hindi and/or Norwegian is an advantage.
- Networking Ability: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain a broad network of contacts in the media and cultural sectors.
- Technological Aptitude: Familiarity with database management and standard office software
Employment Conditions
- Subject to the successful completion of a three-month probationary period and satisfactory medical check, the selected applicant will be a permanent local employee at the Embassy. The successful applicant is expected to commence duty within two months of receiving the selection notification.
- The Embassy follows Indian law with respect to employment rights.

- Social security benefits will be in accordance with the social security legislation in India.
- Working days; Monday-Thursday (08.30-16.30) Friday (08.30-14.00) and 25 days annual paid leave.
