Ambassador Frydenlund moderated a session on Climate Justice with speakers including policy influencers, researchers and civil society representatives from India, Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.
The Adaptation Future Conference is the flagship event of the World Adaptation Science Program, which is one of the four components of World Climate Programme (WCP)/ World Meteorological Organization and provide a platform to facilitate dialogues towards action-oriented climate solutions.
In his opening introduction, the Ambassador presented Norway’s international initiatives on climate adaption. He also stressed upon climate change induced security risks and said that Norway, as an elected member of the UN Security Council for the period 2021-22, was working towards recognition of the link between climate change and security.
The Ambassador summed up the session by stressing upon climate justice for arriving at a consensus for necessary climate action. He also emphasized on listening to people at the local level as they had better knowledge about the local conditions, and drew attention to intergenerational aspect in climate justice and appealed to include the youth in the process.
